Crystal Emir
1986 to 2015
Emir’s show name was “Crystal Emir”, and “Emir” is an Arabic word that literally translates to “prince,” and Emir definitely was a prince He was the consummate show horse; versatile in multiple disciplines, he shone brightest in the show ring. He knew he was in his element at shows and had a “look at me” attitude.
Emir’s bright eyes and loud neigh were a familiar fixture at Arriba Vista Ranch for many, many years. After a wonderful show career with Bob Parks, Shawna showed Emir for several years, and later he became Shawna’s horse. Emir was ridden, shown and loved by Shawna’s students. Eventually leased by junior rider, Juliana Fontana, Emir and Julie had an amazing friendship that helped make his golden years active and fun. Together they spent many happy years going to Class A Arabian shows and always came home with ribbons.
Shawna remembers “He taught me patience, common sense, and the importance of the quality of life. Emir even helped me to teach a blind student to groom, tack up and ride! He gave me gifts every day, and I am proud to say that I could give him one final gift, the gift of being put to rest.”
At 29 years old, Emir chose the time, place and manner of his passing. He was at a show, and died with dignity and grace. He had the heart and determination to finish the class he was in, and to show once and for all time, just what kind of horse he really was.
It is with heavy but fond hearts that we say goodbye to our old friend. We will miss you Emir.
